Monday Meetup: A Careers & Community Series is a monthly hangout designed for middle and high school students who want real insight into real careers. On the first Monday of each month, you’ll hear from local professionals who are actually doing the jobs, sharing how they got there, what the work is really like, and what opportunities exist right here in our community.

No pressure, no lectures, just honest conversations, practical advice, and the chance to ask questions you won’t find answers to in a textbook.

For April, we’re diving into careers in construction, an industry that goes far beyond what most people think. From building homes and businesses to specialized foundation and waterfront projects, construction offers a wide range of hands-on and technical career paths.

We’re excited to welcome Kyle McKay of McKay Construction and Kelly Ellis of Triton Construction, who will share their experiences in commercial, residential, and specialized construction. They’ll talk about how they got started, the variety of roles within the industry, and the different ways students can begin building a career—whether through trade school, apprenticeships, or hands-on experience.

Each meetup includes free food, giveaway drawings, and a relaxed, creative environment at the Twistid Arts Black Box Studio. Stick with the series, and students with the best attendance will be entered into a grand prize drawing at the end.

This series is a partnership between the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce and Twistid Arts Initiative, bringing career exploration and community connection together, one month at a time.
