Guardianship Auditor

A Guardianship Auditor is responsible for reviewing and analyzing guardianship cases to ensure compliance with legal and financial regulations. This role involves auditing work such as examining, evaluating, and appraising guardianship files and records to ensure compliance with all applicable Statutes, Rules of Court Administrative Orders and other judicial directives. Formulate conclusions and communicate matters of non-compliance, and other insufficiencies and discrepancies to the Court through concise written documentation and provide additional data as needed. By maintaining accurate records and detecting potential fraud, waste or abuse, the Guardianship Auditor plays a critical role in protecting the assets and welfare of individuals under guardianship.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The tasks listed below represent essential job functions and exclude the marginal functions of the position that are incidental to the performance of essential job duties. The Clerk may assign additional responsibilities related to the area of work as necessary or during a declared emergency. 

  • Adherence to the mandatory and recommended guidance of the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
  • Reviews guardianship files of the person and property, including petitions, orders, inventories, annual accountings and plans, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to work with confidential and/or sensitive data while complying with state and federal guidelines and legal advice restrictions for the Clerk & Comptroller's office.
  • Participate in court proceedings as required, providing factual evidence to ensure findings are adequately supported and documented when reporting to the court.
  • Prepare audit reports, notices, and official correspondence to document findings and communicate necessary actions.
  • Provide limited assistance to family guardians, guiding them through the document review procedures and the process of reporting guardianship activities correctly.
  • Collaborate with judicial partners, discussing case issues and ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
  • Ensure guardianship reports adhere to state laws, administrative orders and other judicial requirements.
  • Identifies potential fraud, waste or abuse, and notifies appropriate authorities as required by law.
  • Communicate findings effectively to guardians, attorneys, and court officials, addressing concerns and compliance issues.
  • Maintains updated records and documentation to support audits and provide transparency in guardianship proceedings.
  • Non-guardianship activities may include conducting inventory verification for the EOC and unannounced cash verification for the Board and the Clerk.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Verifiable, related work experience may be substituted in lieu of postsecondary educational requirements if a candidate is otherwise qualified for the position. Prior experience working in a Clerk's Office and with the current programs is preferred and may be given consideration in lieu of on the job experience. Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position. Substitution of postsecondary educational requirements is authorized as follows:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of an accredited equivalency diploma, associate's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field preferred.
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience required.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
